The Sugarcoated Language Of White Fragility
“For a while now, I’ve been thinking about how terms like ‘white privilege,’ ‘inclusion’ and ‘unconscious bias’ all sound just . . . too nice. Don’t they seem a little on the pleasant side for words used to address a system of racist oppression?” This piece is in part about the way identity politics have increasingly warped good words with a history of understood meanings. Saying that we want to encourage diversity in terms of hiring is a good basic principle; we should include the wide ranges present in our populations. Saying we want to hire “a diverse person” is tantamount to warping the language for a political reason. Hire the best person for the job; recruit as widely as possible, encouraging applicants with the qualifications required to apply, and make the work place one where people are not tokenized, exploited, or targeted, a place where people of every stripe want to work. Hire the best; retain employees by treating people well, and offering ways to learn, grow and advance.

Academic mobbing, or how to become campus tormentors
“Unlike bullying, an individual form of harassment in which a typical scenario consists of a boss victimizing an assistant, mobbing is a serious organizational deficiency. Its many consequences are so severe that it is considered a major public health issue. The term itself, mobbing, describes its four essential characteristics: it is a collective, violent and deliberate process in which the individual psychologies of the aggressors and their victim provide no keys to understanding the phenomenon.”

The Uninhabitable Earth “It is, I promise, worse than you think. If your anxiety about global warming is dominated by fears of sea-level rise, you are barely scratching the surface of what terrors are possible, even within the lifetime of a teenager today. And yet the swelling seas — and the cities they will drown — have so dominated the picture of global warming, and so overwhelmed our capacity for climate panic, that they have occluded our perception of other threats, many much closer at hand. Rising oceans are bad, in fact very bad; but fleeing the coastline will not be enough.”

At this point, I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that most of the people who voted for #45 are semi-literate jackasses. First there was the completely ignorant response to NPR tweeting the Declaration of Independence. And now, the idiotic response to an authentic 18th century custard recipe for an Orange Fool.
White House releases sensitive personal information of voters worried about their sensitive personal information Voters emailed the White House to object to the proposal to require PID (Personally Identifiable Data) including social security numbers in a public database. “Unfortunately for these voters and others who wrote in, the Trump administration did not redact any of their personal information from the emails before releasing them to the public. In some cases, the emails contain not only names, but email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers and places of employment of people worried about such information being made available to the public.” This is an Etch-A-Sketch administration. They can’t be trusted with anything more sophisticated, because they’re incompetent and malicious.

Why Does Donald Trump Keep Dissing Jews? “Donald Trump has established a pattern of offending — or at the very least ignoring — Jews. The most recent example was just last week, when he declined to pay his respects at a Holocaust memorial in Warsaw that other American presidents routinely visited.”
